An Open Letter for Arizona Disciples
RE: Glendale Mission and Ministry Center
On May 21, 2017, First Christian Church, Glendale gathered and voted to cease its visible ministry in the Fall of 2017. The congregation named our region (Christian Church in Arizona) as its successor (minutes on file), and empowered its Chair of Trustees, to negotiate its final desires. Our office has been able to walk along side, and care for the leadership and congregation beyond its last celebrated worship service on October 15, 2017.
Our office began work on one of the church’s desires, which was “to promote an outreach center at this location in Glendale, AZ.” Hence, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Glendale Mission and Ministry Center. At this time, the center will continue housing several churches and organizations that have been using the space and offer ministries and services to the community. In addition, the Food Pantry program (originally started by the First Christian Church, Glendale) will continue offering service for the public Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
We have a General Ministry partner in this journey, leaders, and staff members from Disciples Church Extension Fund are walking with us sharing in efforts, learning, and exploring how to promote further this new model for ministry and mission. We are continuously in conversation, expanding our partnership, and finding new paths for the future.
At this time, Glendale Mission and Ministry is a ministry of the Christian Church in Arizona. Our Administrative Council and Mission Focus will have the opportunity to discuss next steps for its sustainable, and long future plans in February 2018. Currently, Program Director, Kega Nasios, and Maintenance Coordinator, Jonathan Guzman will continue to offer some leadership to the center. Too, supported by a group of neighboring volunteers for the food pantry.
In this season of Advent where we are invited to slow down and reflect on what this time really means for us, we add a new ministry to pray and care for. How can you help? Please pray for the center, for its mission, and for the families that receive help from the pantry. Too, please feel free to call our Program Director, Kega Nasios at the center 623-937-2359 for ways you might volunteer and / or lend your support. There is more information to come.
